Keep the assumptions
with the answer.

What went in?
Record the date, balances, period, rate and other assumptions. Distinguish values from your records from estimates you entered.
What is left out?
Look for fees, taxes, inflation and changing circumstances. A tool may leave out something that matters to your decision.
What changes the result?
Change one assumption at a time. The answer shows sensitivity to that input; it does not establish what will happen.

Put the estimate in context.

Bring the decision you’re considering and the inputs behind the calculation.
